A Bedroom Pared.....In White

No, I'm not the latest young ingenue of the blog decor world.....but I have been decorating, styling, creating and running a busy shop for many a year now....and at this point in my life I know what I like! However times change and tastes evolve over time....and it was time for a change in the master bedroom, my sanctuary....and in this post I'll share it with you. Perhaps some inspiration in that we don't have to get stuck in a rut, no matter how many years are under your proverbial belt.....

The before.......

Styled by Fifi O'Neill for a Romantic Country Magazine photo shoot and blogged about in a previous post. Very pretty and girly.....keeping in mind that it was styled and we never actually slept with rose petals scattered on the bed:-)

The after.....
A bedroom pared down in white.....

Still a work in progress....

There is a long hallway leading to the master bedroom, as this part of the house was an addition....by us...

I painted the walls White Dove by Benjamin Moore. If you aren't familiar with that colorway, it's a white that has a very subtle background note of grey. Painting this room was loads of work, the room is large ~ 14 feet by 17 feet! I'm still considering painting the ceiling a super pale blue. There are two pairs of French doors that look out to the pool area...so that might be a nice way to tie in my love for pale blue.

The cabinet houses a television and some linens.
The petite chandelier is not old, it's a Tracy Porter piece that was hanging in one of our girl's rooms when she was growing up....and I revamped it for some light in that corner.

The tile floors are a dusty grey/pink with grey grout. They have damage from the floor settling and need to be replaced. We will go with wood, maybe next year......

This old bench is what our sweet Cavalier Spaniel Murphy jumps on to get into bed with us. He is getting to be an older dog and doesn't actually get up there much anymore....so for now I covered the bench with a flouncy easily removed bedspread. Someday I'll get around to tackling recovering it.....

The white denim twill upholstered tufted headboard is the only piece that I purchased in the redo....everything else was relocated or repurposed as I shopped my own house.

I still want to hang something over the bed....thinking about an antique beaded framed French religious relic that I brought home from my last trip to the Paris flea markets......

I love this cabinet....it used to be cherry or mahogany, not sure which? I painted it a semi gloss white and replaced the hardware with some antique French pulls that I found at a French flea market.

The chandelier redo.....white paint, vintage cut glass bobeches, vintage crystal drops in a faded lemon yellow and pale aqua, and old Italian macaroni drops.

I want to hang another chandelier in the room over the bed, but we need the ceiling fan....since we live in South Florida.....

See that hit of pale blue or aqua from the pool? Blue will be a pale accent color.....just very muted, probably in some pillows with old grainsack perhaps.

I have a bunch of these windows and can't wait to do something with the rest of them!......

Can you tell how much I swoon over this headboard! The bed is waiting for me to sew up some accent pillows......

Alabaster lamps.....old ones, estate acquired years ago. The silk shades are ripped, I don't care.....

Tattered antique French book with antique lace. Would it be crazy to say that this was the inspiration for an entire room?.....

More of those yummy, delicious, antique yellow chandelier ball drop crystals. Yellow is not by nature a color that I am drawn to, but these...oh yeah....

I showed you the screen redo in a previous post. An old dressform that I painted wears a tattered antique slip and ruffled prom gown top. At her top is a post that I cut off the bed, which used to be a four poster.....

Love, love, love my old six foot long shabby pink wood bench! I bought it from my friend Cindy many years ago and I don't think that I could ever part with it. Like everything else here I just move things around.....

Lots of antique laces for the feminine touch that's still needed in this sanctuary retreat.....

I hope that you enjoyed my little tour.....I'll have more for you as the room progresses, but first I need to paint the dressing room and bath!

One more thing dear blog readers....this is my 249th post!

My next post will be 250 (uh, duh!), and in celebration of my UPCOMING updated SHABBYFUFU website I'll be hosting a fabulous GIVEAWAY!

We are working on the new site.....you can't see it yet (leaving the old site live until we switch over), but it's looking so lovely and we have some Beautiful pieces coming in soon that I cannot wait to share with you!

While Everyone Is Fleamarketing

While everyone is flea marketing I've been nesting indoors in the airconditioning and staying far, far away from the oppressive heat and humidity that marks summer in Miami. The way that I see it, our summer is your winter. You will be nesting in a few months while I am out hitting the fleas....funny how that is!

Been working on trying to get the website redesigned, and hopefully that will be a finished project within the next couple of weeks. In the meantime I have been spending time with the family, redecorating the master bedroom (will share that with you soon!) and creating some new items for the site (will share those on the new site.....soon, soon, all soon!).

Here is a custom romantic dress form order that I just finished.....that I will share with you today!

Talk to you soon my friends....

A Good Time

Hello friends near and far.......

We had a good time at our beach home, very relaxing and now is a good time to get working again.
Unfortunately my big ol' office computer has taken a hit and I can't get in to work on the website....so for those who have emailed as to why things aren't marked as Sold Out or new things not posted...that's why! The site is still functional for purchases, it's just the "back end" that I can't get in to. It's a good time for a website remodel, so I'm going to go with that and have changes coming. I'm praying that the photos of all of my years of projects can be saved.....

In the meantime.....off to my studio for some projects that I can't wait to share with you!

Have a creative and beautiful week....

Sea Dreams

At the beach home one can't help but become inspired by the colors of the ever changing sea and the sand.....

I've collected beach glass for many years now and use some of my old Mason jars to hold these little bits....

A bowl that I threw back in college. In case you are new here, I used to be a potter...many moons ago......

I have always had a love affair with the color aqua....

So here we are at our beach home and luckily he can sometimes run his business from here with today's technology. I've tried to get him to relax some and yesterday we did spend half the day in the ocean.....

After I put him to work that is.....
I have been wanting to tile the back splash in the kitchen at this place for awhile.....

We were in Home Depot last weekend picking up some things for our house (where we live day to day) and I spied this glass mosaic tile. Perfect! Beach colors....soft colors of the sea. The sea when it's happy and the sea when it's angry....

I love the way that it turned out....very HAPPY!
More of those Mason jars......

A view of the kitchen from the dining room. It's not a large backsplash, quite small indeed. Just adds some interest beyond the builder grade wall. Oh, excuse the mess on the counters.....

Remember a previous post with these elements shown? Old frames painted white, burlap and sea fans...

Finished......

I have been seeing sea fans mounted in shadow box frames at various art and antique shows the last couple of years. Very expensive and a bit too modern for my taste buds.....

I have a large stash (too large!) of antique frames that I've amassed and these two are around the same size and both with the original wavy glass. They aren't a matching pair, but no matter as I painted them white and they work.  The backs were missing so I replaced with foam core that I covered in a bleached burlap. The sea fans were from a shell shop here in Florida. I painted them pale aqua...brushed on. Then hot glued to the burlap and mounted under the cleaned up glass and nailed on the backs........

We hung them over the twin beds in one of the bedrooms.....

This is the room that the girls used to stay in when they would come up here with us. It used to be very girly and pink, but now it's a bit older. So are they....they don't get up here with us much anymore, so the room is more appropriate for guests of any sort.....

Hard to capture the room well, but the massive framed sea fans are not as far apart as they seem here. It's a quiet space for sea dreams.....

Happy day to you from here at the beach....

I'll be having a fabulous giveaway soon for my 250th post!

From The Shabbyfufu Studio....Teacup Candelabra

A quick hello from my decadent parlor at the Shabbyfufu Studio.....which is still quite girly and inspiring to work in!

I wanted to share one project that I just finished, as I am moving on today to other endeavors. This is a custom tea cup candelabra for a customer who had purchased one about 3 years back and was ready for another. She sent me this antique chocolate pot set to use.....I posted the set itself on a previous blog post I think. It's not easy to find the beautiful antique candelabra lamps that I used to find to make these with in the past...so put this one together out of parts and painted it to match. Lovely....don't you agree? I hope so.....and if you are interested in something with your china I do accept custom orders, so feel free to inquire!

Speaking of pretty girly things.....proud mama Fufu here wanted to give a shout out to my girls Kristen and Suze for a couple of new creations they have made for the Shoppe.

Gorgeous cherub floor lamp from Kristen......

Beautiful pink roses mosaic basket from Suze.......

Back to work now....lots of love from here~
