Happy Labor Day!

This will be my last post for the next few days, as we head out to our beach home for some well earned relaxation.......ahhhhh! The website starts to pick up momentum in September, so this may be my last relaxing weekend for awhile. I will be doing some shopping at my favorite hunting grounds for you, so check back in over the weeks to come and see what I have scoured!

We have some exciting changes coming to the website as well with new categories and some fabulous new items. You may have noticed some of the new category names, and I want to thank Hillary Willhite, who is the very talented daughter of our mosaic artisan Elizabeth....as she is a whiz at graphic work and is ONLY 16 years young! Feel free to contact me if you are in need of graphic work, and I will pass it along to Hillary.

It was like Christmas here today, as I received my Wriskeys from my pink buddy Tara at Bella Pink. Gotta love these, and her presentation is gorgeous...with gifts that make you feel like a queen! Check them out ladies....almost as good as chocolates.

More news to watch for~coming this weekend to Make Mine Pink is my newest Coastal Decorating article that features a sneak peek at my friend Barbara Jacksier's upcoming book entitled Cozy Waterside Cottages.....

This photo is one that I took at sunset on our beach. Florida has the most GLORIOUS sunsets anywhere!

Have a fabulous LONG weekend!

Warmest regards,

Janet

A Touch Of This & A Touch Of That

Tastes change over the years as we constantly evolve and grow in our likes and dislikes. For me, I have become darned tired of the bedroom furniture that we have had for the past 15 years.....but knew that with some creative energy it could be revamped and freshened up! I don't know what possessed me to ever buy this dark poster bed in the first place, other than a foggy moment after Hurricane Andrew wiped us out just about 15 years ago to the day. We sadly lost much of what was in our home, and it was a scary experience.....riding out the storm with our girls and our Golden Retriever holed up frightened in a closet all night while our roof was ripping off and water was pouring in. The after effects made it so difficult to live, and furniture was hard to come by....so this is what we ended up with, courtesy of our insurance policy at the time.
Time to lighten up the bedroom....as the rest of the house already is.....so I started with the bed and gave it a makeover. I was tired of the four poster look, so with a trusty Sawzall we cut off the ends and reconfigured them to make them shorter. I redid the headboard with some gorgeous thick, chunky rose appliques....which gives it height and a French appeal. All painted in an Antique Vanilla and distressed, I really love the way it came out and was not super expensive to do....alot less than buying new! I always use all white linens......it's a nice clean look, some vintage with lace and some new. For a coverlet I sewed together two antique French Lace single spreads.....these are hard to come by anymore and look so ethereal! A pale pink brocade is thrown across the end, and a pillow that I crafted sometime ago with an old cherub needlepoint softens the look as well. The KING of the family~our 6 year old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel really enjoys this spot, and YES...he sleeps up there with us every night!

I hope that you enjoy this makeover segment....more to come!
Warmest regards,
Janet

Pretty In PINK!

Ohhhh ladies, wouldn't you just love to be able to paint like this? Our website porcelain painter, and my dear friend, Farnaz Farzad.....never ceases to amaze me with her fabulous talent! She paints her china with the softest PINK ROSES in such a feminine style. Her pieces call to mind the old Limoges hand painted porcelain that is so coveted in today's times. She is busy filling daily orders at Shabbyfufu, with many repeat clients.....and her work is only found on our site. Here are a couple of new pieces that are coming this week to the website~simply Exquisite~enjoy!

Have a great week, please feel free to comment~we love to hear from you!

Tantalizing Tea Lighting

It's time for tea (or Hot Chocolate)! I was happy this weekend to have the much needed man assistance of my husband, who if I bug him often enough will take some time away from his own pursuits on an occasional weekend, to help me with some projects. He is my "assistant lighting designer" and power tool expert around here. We have been spending lots of time at our beach home this summer, so I am happy to nab his help when I can get it! We put together two of our teapot lamps over this weekend, actually these particular ones are chocolate pot lamps. Our customers seem to love our tea projects...they do really add some sweet whimsy to the home! We have another tea project that we sketched out this weekend that will be upcoming on the website in the Fall, so stayed tuned.

Have a Fabulous week everyone,
Warmest regards ~ Janet

Pretty Passion

I have been drawn to playful cherubs forever it seems, which is obvious if you visit my home where they seem to have taken over in certain areas. Such sweet innocence they exude...and the older, more beautifully aged and tattered the better. I thought that I would share a few special decorative pieces with you today, pieces that to me truly speak the language of love. Older than mankind, okay....not THAT old, but this is my absolute Favorite oil painting that I was fortunate to score years ago, before cherubs become so red hot. This one dates to the late 1800's and is has the mark of time with lots of tears, which make it all the more endearing. The colors are so softly muted, which makes it so very appealing. I have this one hanging over the mantle in our master bedroom.

I can't tell you how many emails I have received over the years asking to buy this plate! It's often used as a prop in my photo shoots, and I actually have a set six of these hand painted beauties. No decals on these, they are hand painted, dated and signed from the turn of the century.....and unless I win the mega lottery and can retire to an island in Caribbean are definitely not for sale:-)

This is an old French child's bed (headboard) that I picked up from a favorite Brocante dealer several years back, and have been trying to figure out what to do with. It almost fits under the fireplace in my master bedroom, so I may have the feet cut down and use it as a firescreen. Très Chic!

I hope that you all have a wonderful, inspired weekend!
